We at Cairns understand the bravery it takes to admit you want help and access the relevant support necessary to achieve change. It can be a daunting experience the first time you make contact, but we believe that the benefits and the peace you can experience after your time here will make it worth while.
Counselling is time set aside by you and the counsellor to look at what has brought you to therapy. This might include talking about life events, (past and present), feelings, emotions, relationships, ways of thinking and patterns of behaviour. The counsellor will do their best to help you to look at your issues, counsellors will not give advice on what to do with your life, however they will help you to identify the right course of action, either to help resolve your difficulties or help find ways of coping. Talking about these things may take time and it is often a difficult process, however it is also beneficial in helping you to move forward.
When you contact us we ask you to fill in a brief form which asks for basic details, including preferred times of appointments. The completed form can be returned by e-mail or by post to the Cairns office. As soon as we receive the form you will be put on our waiting list for an initial meeting. During this initial meeting you will find out about the service and can ask any questions you may have. It also allows us to ensure we are able to provide the support you require
The waiting time is currently about 10-16 weeks if you are flexible, but this may be considerably longer if you are very restricted with your availability to attend appointments. Typically, evenings have the longest waitng times.
We do however offer a small proportion of our appointments as faster flexible appointments for a fee of £45 per session. For fee paying clients we try to ensure you are seen within two to three weeks of your first contact with us.
Initially we offer clients 6-8 Counselling Sessions, on a weekly basis. For clients who require additional sessions this can be agreed between you and your Counsellor.
A Counselling Session will usually last about 50 minutes and we ask clients to arrive no earlier than 5 minutes before a session. Each session will be arranged with the same Counsellor and will generally take place at the same time each week.
We are open 6 days per week including Saturday mornings, with evening sessions available Monday to Wednesday
