We are an independent charitable organisation. Although we are recommended by many GP’s, we are not part of the NHS. We rely on donations and the support of charitable trusts to raise enough funds to deliver the service. There is no minimum expectation of the amount clients donate towards the cost of their counselling, any donation is gratefully received.

Ways you can support us

Our award-winning service was established in 1994. Through the provision of counselling, we encourage, empower and enable our clients to live more fulfilling lives. Dedicated to improving access and reducing stigma, your donation will help us make a difference in the lives of many.

As a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO), there is an opportunity for those who wish to show their support for the service, to become a member of Cairns. Membership is free and is an easy way to show your support and have an influence on the progress of the service. You will be kept up to date on service developments and will receive an invite to our AGM. For more information on becoming a member, please contact the office.

One of the key ways to demonstrate the importance of our service is to provide evidence of the difference counselling can make. This can also make a big difference when we are applying for funding. We, of course, have the facts and figures of service activity, but the personal experiences convey much more than numbers alone can. If you are interested in providing us with a testimony of your experience, we would be very grateful and can supply you with information on how to proceed.

The Wider Financial Picture

Our main funder is Aberdeen City Health & Social Care Partnership who actively support all that we do. However this still leaves a considerable shortfall as at present this provides less than one quarter of the funds we need. Other Trusts who support us by donating annually include:

Aberdeen Presbytery of the Church of Scotland, The Hope Trust, The Kelbie Trust & The Jennie S Gordon Trust

Many thanks to the following Trusts and Foundations who have donated money to Cairns during our last financial year, up to 31st March 2019 :

Caroline J. Spence, Northwood Charitable Trust, Agnes Hunter trust, The Hospital Saturday Trust, Tabhair Charitable Trust, Aberdeen Harbour Community Action Fund, The Albert Hunt Trust, United Way Give Local Grant, The Stafford Trust, The Ann Ryland Trust, James T. Howat Charitable Trust, Violet M. Lessels’ Trust.

Our funders inspect our work to ensure that we are working to the highest professional standards.

If your firm is looking for a charity to support or you are doing some personal fundraising we would be delighted to hear from you.

Voluntary Support

We have a number of voluntary counsellors and fundraisers. If you are a trained counsellor and are interested in volunteering for us or if you are able to support us with fundraising please do not hesitate to contact us.
